Refining Naduvi’s shopping experience with Shopify and Algolia

Naduvi.nl and its German counterpart, Naduvi.de, are emerging e-commerce platforms specialising in home and lifestyle products. Despite having visually appealing websites, they faced several challenges related to product data management, search functionalities, and customisation. This case study explores how we transformed both websites, enhancing user experience and backend functionalities.

Project objectives

  • - Transition to Shopify's built-in features: To make the websites more manageable and user-friendly

  • - Implement Algolia: To overcome Shopify's limitations on product display and search functionalities.

  • - Streamline product data management: To efficiently manage and display product data stored in Metafield Guru.

Naduvi, who?

Naduvi isn't just another e-commerce platform. They offer a curated selection of home and lifestyle products. However, their previous websites were built on Shopify with a React framework. The sites were heavily customised and relied on Contentful for content management, which posed limitations for quick updates and changes.

Our solutions

1. Transition to Shopify's built-in features

We transitioned from Contentful to Shopify's built-in features for content management. This allowed Naduvi to have more control over their content without requiring specialised technical skills.

Example: Previously, updating a banner text required a developer to make changes in Contentful. Now, the marketing team can update this text directly from the Shopify dashboard.

2. Algolia: The game-changer

Algolia was implemented to address the limitations imposed by Shopify on the number of products displayed.

Example: Before Algolia, applying a filter on a collection page could only display up to 5,000 products, but now that number has increased to over 5,000+. Additionally, on collection pages, the limit to display or loop the products was 10,000, but with the implementation of Algolia, that limit is now infinite!

3. Mastering Metafield Guru

All of Naduvi's product data was initially stored in Metafield Guru. We developed a method to fetch this data and display it seamlessly on the websites.

Example: Inventory count and delivery times are now visible on the product pages, pulled directly from Metafield Guru.

4. Swatches and wishlist

We encountered challenges with implementing swatches, which are small samples representing product options like colours or materials. These are areas of ongoing development.

5. Custom checkout experience

We customised the checkout process to make it more streamlined, bypassing Shopify's default three-step process.

Example: This eliminates the need for a separate shipping details page, reducing the number of steps in the customer journey.

6. Tracking and analytics

Google Tag Manager codes were integrated for comprehensive tracking.

Results

The transformation led to more efficient, user-friendly websites. While specific metrics are confidential, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

The revamp of Naduvi.nl and Naduvi.de has been a resounding success, addressing both frontend and backend challenges. With plans for further enhancements, especially after the Service Level Agreement (SLA) is in place, Naduvi is well on its way to setting a new standard in e-commerce.
